“Our regulatory practice is top notch, and it is incredibly valuable to be able to use our lawyers’ expertise and learn from them.”
- Philip Trout, Senior Associate, Washington, D.C.
My practice is focused on white collar government and internal investigations. I have worked mostly on investigations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act as well as healthcare fraud.
I have worked closely with members of our FDA practice on a government investigation in the healthcare industry.
Getting to know Hogan Lovells
The people made the difference. I had heard that the firm had great lawyers who were also great people. During the interview process I continued to be impressed by everyone with whom I met, and I felt at ease throughout. I haven’t been disappointed. The atmosphere is a mix of smart, talented lawyers who enjoy each other’s company and work well together.
The white collar group is a collection of gifted people who also have a good sense of humor and know how to work together in teams. People respect each other’s personal time and truly encourage you to have a life outside of the office. When extra work is necessary, everyone will take turns to pitch in and get it done.
The partners on our teams will periodically take us all out to lunch to celebrate a victory or simply in appreciation for our hard work in the middle of a case. It is a terrific way to interact outside of the firm, and a helpful reminder that everyone’s work is truly appreciated.
Pro bono opportunities
There is no shortage of pro bono opportunities at the firm, with a dedicated pro bono associate and partner who encourage participation in pro bono matters and help guide you to the cases you’ll find most rewarding.
I have worked for a client for the past year and a half to secure his release from prison. It has been a complex and challenging process but also very rewarding as I have gotten to know my client and his many family members.
Outside the office
I regularly hang out with my friends from the firm after work during the week and on weekends, going to baseball games, concerts and parties together. There is no obligation to it - they are real friends and I enjoy spending time with them outside of the office. I also enjoy traveling, hiking, and softball, although the addition of a baby boy to our family has made it a bit harder to do any of that!
A word to the wise
Ask yourself with whom you would want to work on a daily basis.
