“[W]e truly have a unique combination of attributes: excellent lawyers, great culture, and a global presence.”
- Oliver Armas, Partner, New York
I primarily focus on complex cross-border litigation and arbitration.
Getting to know Hogan Lovells
Before joining Hogan Lovells, I was a partner at a New York-based firm. I decided that I needed a more global platform in order to better serve my clients, and Hogan Lovells was a perfect fit for me. You can take a large firm and make it feel small (which is what Hogan Lovells does), but you can’t take a small firm and make it feel big.
My expectations were that the firm would be full of exceptionally talented and committed lawyers and staff, with a focus on excellence and client service. Within months of joining, I was asked to participate in a two-week “roadshow” to over a dozen clients in Germany. This was a terrific opportunity to work with and get to know lawyers from other offices around the world and experience the firm’s global scale and commitment to clients firsthand. Hogan Lovells has truly exceeded all my expectations.
There really is no “typical” day — especially since I travel about two weeks out of the month and am otherwise meeting with clients or attending hearings and conferences — but I principally work with the same team of six that joined Hogan Lovells with me. We handle international arbitration cases, litigation, and internal investigations (mostly FCPA-related), and are currently working on matters in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, and Korea.
The firm takes very seriously its commitment to pro bono. This is reflected in the quantity of matters we handle and the quality of work we do. I have worked with Kids in Need of Defense on a pro bono basis, which is an organization that represents undocumented immigrant children (mostly from Central America) in asylum cases.
Word to the wise
Spend the time to get to know us, and you will realize that we truly have a unique combination of attributes: excellent lawyers, great culture, and a global presence.
I joined Hogan Lovells as a lateral partner from a New York-based international firm. With me came a team of six other lawyers who I work closely with on complex domestic and international disputes. I also have an active trial practice in U.S. federal and state courts, routinely represent foreign and domestic clients in arbitrations and other arbitral tribunals, and assist foreign product manufacturers in supply chain disputes and product liability litigation and in related regulatory matters. Fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, I also regularly counsel clients on matters involving Latin America.
Outside of the office, I enjoy quality time with my family and dog, Charlie.
